The Presidential Council announced on Friday the release of Tarhuna Parliament Member Hassan Jaballah, more than two years after his detention.

Jaballah's release occurred during a reception by Presidential Council Head Mohamed Menfi for a delegation of Tarhuna notables and elders at the Council's headquarters in Tripoli.

According to the media office of the Presidential Council Head, the delegation praised the Presidential Council's efforts in the case, while Jaballah was released after completing legal procedures.

Jaballah was arrested by the Deterrence Force for Combating Terrorism and Organized Crime in Tripoli on February 27, 2023, on charges of collaborating with the notorious Kaniyat militia, which committed numerous atrocities in Tarhuna before fleeing the city in June 2020.

The Public Prosecutor later issued a decision to release Jaballah unconditionally, but the Deterrence Force did not respond to the order, despite the fact that there was no complaint against Jaballah, according to sources close to him at the time.

Jaballah was referred to the military judiciary despite his parliamentary immunity under the law.
