A Swiss newspaper has revealed that representatives of Libyan civil society organizations, economic, political and academic circles have intensified their calls on the United Nations to organize a conference in Geneva in order to relaunch the political process.
The Tribune de Genève said that the tensions related to the crisis of the Central Bank of Libya are a reminder of the seriousness of the situation in Libya, referring to a call made by human rights activist and international advisor to the Conflict Resolution Committee, Aisha Al-Abbar, to the United Nations to appoint a new special envoy to Libya urgently, to accelerate the political process leading to elections.
Al-Abbar said in a statement to the Swiss newspaper: "We may have to call for a comprehensive and broad popular movement across Libya to overthrow all existing bodies, and form a military council, with the Supreme Judicial Council leading the country toward fair elections."
“We strongly support the work of the 5+5 Committee, and we hope to quickly activate its role in securing the country and unifying the military institution to protect Libya, its institutions and its borders,” she added.
She also said: “Our movement is a popular initiative that does not enjoy the support of any internal or external party, and we maintain an equal distance from all parties, as we work day and night to unify the Libyan people. These efforts are necessary to preserve the will of the people and prevent the fragmentation of Libyan unity. The next major step could be holding a conference in Geneva.”
