The tactical exercise “Desert Warriors” began Wednesday in Washtata - south of the city of Tarhouna - with the participation of a number of army units affiliated with the General Staff in Tripoli, and the presence of representatives of the member states of the 5+5 Defense Initiative, according to what was announced by Brigade 444 of the General Staff in Tripoli. 

The Libyan Army units that participated in implementing the activities of the tactical exercise that simulated combating terrorism were Brigade 444, the Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces, the Counter-Terrorism Force, the Special Forces Department, the Military Engineering Department, and the Intelligence Department, according to the media office of the West Coast Military Zone.

Brigade 444 said that the tactical exercise came within the framework of joint cooperation between the member states of 5+5 Defense Initiative in the framework of raising the fighting spirit of the Libyan army units.

The West Coast Military Zone also indicated that the tactical exercise aimed to implement a scenario that simulates the expected risks and threats of terrorist groups, and planning and training in order to develop the skills of assigned individuals, raise the level of readiness of units, and demonstrate the extent of coordination and cooperation with the relevant participating parties to exchange experiences and enhance capabilities and cooperation on regional level in the field of combating terrorism.

The tactical exercise activities were attended by military delegations representing five European countries: France, Malta, Italy, Spain and Portugal, in addition to representatives of the Maghreb countries: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Mauritania. The activities were also attended by Assistant Chief of General Staff Salah Al-Namroush, among other military officers.
