The Head of the UNSMIL, Ghassan Salame, arrived Sunday in Sabha, marking his first visit to the southern region since he was appointed in June 2017.
Salame met with elders, dignitaries and tribesmen as well as academics from southern Libya to discuss the lingering issues of the region and the available solutions.
“The current bodies in Libya are under-performing and their work is not up to the levels required of them. It’s time we have looked for alternatives.” Salame said.
He also talked about the security arrangements in Tripoli, saying they will expand to all Libyan cities and most importantly to the southern region very soon.
“Next week will bring about real changes on the scene in Libya. The UNSMIL won’t take easy any hindrances and will punish those who get in the way of solutions.” Salame added.
He also said that despite the fact that the results of the economic reforms haven’t been the same in all across the country, but they helped provide much needed liquidity at the banks and dropped the black market’s exchange rates.
