The Libyan Football Federation has sacked national team coach French Corentin Martins after a poor form ended the Knights' journey in the African Nations Cup (CHAN) for locals.

The Libyan team was knocked out as early as the group stages.

The Knights lost to both Algeria and Mozambique before achieving a moral victory against Ethiopia in their last match.

Fans’ response to the news was "disappointment and frustration" over a perceived lack of effort to keep the team in Algeria, where the competition is taking place.

The 2023 African Nations Championship is being played in Algeria this January after it was pushed by six months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The tournament, which runs every two years has been expanded to feature 18 national teams made up exclusively of domestic-based players.
