Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs Walid Al-Lafi represented Libya at the International Strategic Communication Summit (STRATCOM) 2023, which kicked off in Istanbul on Friday.

In his presentation, Al-Lafi highlighted his government's efforts in confronting disinformation as he underlined the link between politics and communication, which he said has a strategic importance in today's world.

He also revealed his government's interest in establishing a central strategy at the public policy level and outlined the role of government media during crises and natural disasters, such as the recent floods that hit Libya last September.

Al-Lafi cited the Derna crisis as an example of the government's effective communication strategies during times of crisis as he praised the government media's interaction in providing up-to-date, complete, and quick information, as well as issuing alerts during the sudden communications outage and the spread of misleading rumours.

The two-day summit commenced its 3rd edition under the theme "Global Response to Hybrid Threats: Stability. Security. Solidarity", with the participation of world leaders, experts and professionals in the field of strategic communication from 30 countries worldwide.
