The Libyan Aviation Syndicate has called for the continuation of building the passenger’s lounge at the Tripoli International Airport regardless of any political conflicts.
The head of the syndicate, Abdelsalam Al-Tamimi, told the press that they were surprised by the decision of the UN-proposed government’s Presidential Council that ordered suspension of the reconstruction, pointing out that it made such a decision out of political rivalry, as the Salvation Government (SG) was the one that contracted the construction company.
“The SG placed the foundation stone for the reconstruction project of the airport and we actually only care about the reopening of the airport and the return of the airliners to work after receiving considerable damage and their employees lost their jobs from the shutdown of the airport, not to mention losing their equipment in the airport clashes in 2014.” The head of the Aviation Syndicate added.
He reaffirmed that the construction company’s work at the airport is underway; however, the syndicate find the Presidential Council’s statements about shutting it down a threat to that company.
Tripoli International Airport was shut mid-July 2014 after a big part of it had been massively damaged due to the then clashes between Libya Dawn operation and Zinatni brigades inside and nearby the airport.
