Police in Tobruk have arrested an Egyptian national working as a butcher in Libya for selling dead and sick livestock unfit for human consumption.
The 38 years old man confessed to buying sick livestock and slaughtering them before selling them to other slaughterhouses and restaurants at dirt-cheap prices.
He admitted that he and a group of butchers bought over 80 sick cattle in one day and sold them as edible products and minced meat.
The Food and Drug Control Centre had carried out several crackdowns on meat shops after frequent reports of food poisoning due to consuming fast food.
