Migrants

The Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) on Monday urged international assistance for about 360 migrants from sub-Saharan African countries who have been abandoned in the desert by Tunisian authorities in an uninhabited area near Libya's border.

The Cairo-based Arab organization welcomed Libya's reception of the migrants who suffered difficult humanitarian conditions before being rescued by the Libyan border guards.

The organization's branch in Libya quoted the Libyan border guards as saying that around 360 migrants, including women and children, need urgent humanitarian and medical assistance.

It urged the Libyan government to authorize the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the International Organization for Migration teams to meet the group of migrants and assist in legal procedures.
