The European Union’s Ambassador to Libya, Nicolas Orlando, met with Admiral Valentino Rinaldi, commander of the EU’s IRINI naval operation, to discuss enhancing cooperation in achieving shared objectives between Libya and the EU.
Orlando highlighted the operation’s “neutral role,” functioning under UN Security Council Resolution 2292 (2016) and subsequent resolutions. He stressed the importance of IRINI’s role in enforcing the UN arms embargo, monitoring illicit oil exports, and disrupting human trafficking networks.
He reaffirmed the mission’s commitment to support capacity building and provide training to Libya’s migration authorities, contributing to the country’s stability and security.
