The European Union Mission in Libya has restated its appeal to the Libyan parties to demonstrate an unwavering commitment, in good faith, to UN Envoy Abdoulaye Bathily's ongoing efforts to resolve the political crisis through consensus.

On the occasion of Libya's 72nd Independence Day, the EU Mission highlighted the Libyan people's aspirations to express their opinions through nationwide elections.

The mission recognized the recent adoption of a legal framework for elections as a significant milestone, urging Libyan leaders to uphold the people's right to legitimate and unified institutions and collaborate towards the establishment of lasting peace, prosperity, and sustainability in Libya.

It further called for consensus and fair, transparent, inclusive elections that align with the objectives of UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
