The EU mission and the embassies of the EU member states in Libya have welcomed SRSG Abdoulaye Bathily’s announcement, in which he called Libyan key parties to a new round of talks to find common ground.
Bathily had extended an invitation to Libyan stakeholders to attend a meeting aimed at tackling the politically contested issues for the implementation of the electoral process and requested them to designate representatives to participate in a preparatory session.
In a joint statement Friday, the group urged Libyan stakeholders to put the national interest first and renew the legitimacy of the institutions by accepting Bathily's invitation and engaging constructively together to reach a political agreement paving the way for national elections.
