The head of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Emad Al-Sayeh, met in Tripoli on Saturday with Stephanie Koury, Deputy Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, to discuss preparations for the second phase of municipal elections.

Koury reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to providing technical and logistical support to ensure transparent elections, which she said were crucial for Libya’s stability and local development.

According to HNEC’s media office, discussions also covered the impact of Libya’s political landscape on the electoral process, as well as challenges facing the UNDP-led support project. Both sides stressed the need for urgent action to strengthen electoral efforts and move forward with municipal elections.

HNEC earlier announced the completion of candidate registration for the second phase of municipal elections and the opening of voter registration.
