Minister of Interior Emad Trabulsi has pledged to prevent issuance of permits to establish new fuel stations, and to follow up on stations involved in smuggling and close them down.
In a press conference, Friday, Trabulsi stressed the magnitude of the smuggling problem, noting that "the amount of smuggled fuel is very large and there are countries neighboring Libya that rely on smuggled Libyan fuel."
"If a fuel truck driver is proven to be involved in smuggling, even if it is only 10 liters, he will be referred to the Public Prosecution directly," he added.
He considered what happened in Libya in the past few days of long queues at fuel stations was unacceptable in an oil producing country.
