Officials at Mitiga airport announced on Friday, the suspension of all air flights until further notice due to heavy shelling.

There was an immediate evacuation of passengers from the terminal. The shelling targeted several locations within the airport including the runway.

The undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Hisham Bushkiwat, stated in a press release that air traffic at Mitiga Airport has not entirely returned to normal but hoped to see routine flights begin again as soon as possible to help those passengers who are stranded abroad.
