Tribal elders, community leaders, members of the municipal councils, politicians and civil society organizations from the southern region have agreed to a charter of peaceful coexistence and reconciliation in Fezzan region, under the auspices of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.

Participants at a three-day forum in Tunis agreed on a set of principles around which local and national reconciliation could be structured.

The participants stressed the pivotal role of Fezzan in the Libyan political and social scene, hoping that their region will become a symbol of future reconciliation.

They also pointed out that initiatives submitted to end tribal wars in Fezzan over the past six years had failed to build a firm peace.
