The head of the faculty union at Derna University, Osama Shalash, has stated that the university lost a number of faculty members and about 140 students in the flood tragedy.

“We have not obtained new appointments to fill the shortage in faculty members, and the collaborators wages have not been paid for years”, Shalash added.

He continued, "We were not able to receive new students for the first semester, because there is no place for study, and the university is suffering from financial problems due to the transfer of faculty members' salaries. The situation there is tragic."

Shalash appealed to the authorities to adhere to their promises, and not to put them in a tight corner with the faculty members, so that they do not go on strike again.
