Bashagha: Audit Bureau report is blackmail
Minister of Interior Fathi Bashagha on Friday firmly rejected accusations of corruption set out in the recent Audit Bureau report against his ministry, insisting that it was drawn up based on political motives.
"When a person with ideological or political orientations heads the financial monitoring body, it goes without saying that this is a form of political racketeering," Bashagha tweeted out on his account.
The Interior Minister challenged the Audit Bureau to transfer the accusations to the courts, saying that this "hollow and futile report is just media hype set up under the pretext of fighting corruption.
The Audit Bureau on Thursday released its annual report for the year 2019, in which it accused many government bodies of wrongdoing and corruption, including the Interior Ministry.
