The Government of National Unity (GNU) is mobilizing resources to address the aftermath of heavy rains and flooding that have hit the western region, including Tarhuna and Bani Walid.
Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh has instructed the Minister of Local Governance, Badr Al-Din Al-Toumi, and the Emergency Committee to focus on restoring essential services in Tarhuna, including reopening the city's main hospital to ensure the delivery of critical care.
Minister Al-Toumi announced the tragic loss of two lives and the disappearance of another person due to flooding caused by overflowing valleys in Tarhuna.
He stated that a comprehensive plan has been implemented to manage the severe weather conditions, adding that coordinated efforts by the relevant authorities and local citizens have helped minimize human losses.
Furthermore, the minister confirmed that damages to public and private property are being assessed and will be addressed, with compensation to be provided to affected individuals under directives from the prime minister.
Meanwhile, the Emergency and Ambulance Service reported the loss of two team members during rescue operations in Bani Walid. According to a statement from the service, the two personnel—Haitham Ghiet Al-Aih and Malik Saad Al-Dbeib—were swept away by flooding in Wadi Washtatah while en route to support rescue teams in Tarhuna.
Emergency efforts remain ongoing as authorities strive to mitigate the damage and support those impacted by the severe weather.
