The member of the House of Representatives (HoR) Jalal Al-Shuwihdi said Thursday that there are no military and police institutions in Benghazi contrary to the claims of east-based House of Representatives members.

Al-Shuwihdi told Libya Alwatan TV channel that it isn’t true that eastern Libya is safe and secure, adding that he warned over and over again that there are no real military or police institutions in east Libya “but I was rendered treacherous.”

In a new statement to Arraed Media Network on Saturday, he also said the commander of the self-styled army in the east Khalifa Haftar formed militias led by his sons and cousins to crackdown on opponents, adding that Haftar-led forces are working like the militias of the Gaddafi regime.

The HoR member explained that the eastern MPs can’t even demand an investigation into the actions of Haftar or his chief commander Abdelrazik Al-Nathori.

“I used to support Haftar at the HoR and thought he was building an army but it turned out he was forming his own militias.” He added.

This comes as after the abduction of the former Benghazi mayor Ahmed Al-Araibi and his son, who were kidnapped by gunmen loyal to Haftar from their house last Tuesday.
