Statistics from the Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Unity revealed the number of traffic accidents recorded during the third quarter of this year; saying they recorded 2384 accidents, according to its statement.

The ministry explained in a statement that the accidents during (July, August and September) resulted in 629 deaths, 1006 serious injuries, and 933 mild injuries.

The ministry indicated that 3857 vehicles were damaged, noting that the estimated value of material damages resulting from the accidents exceeded 20 million Libyan dinars.

It called for taking serious measures to address the causes of the increase in accidents, noting that non-compliance with traffic laws, such as excessive speed, using the phone while driving and unsafe overtaking, were among the most prominent reasons behind these devastating accidents, in addition to neglecting periodic maintenance of vehicles.

The Ministry of Interior also stressed that traffic safety is a collective responsibility, and that the solution begins with drivers adhering to the rules of the road and avoiding dangerous behaviors while driving.
