The Libyan-Turkish Security Cooperation Committee held its second meeting on Sunday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Interior in Tripoli, headed by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Unity, Major General Mahmoud Saeed, and the Deputy Minister of Interior of Turkey, Münir Karaloğlu, and attended by members of the committee from both countries.
The Libyan Ministry of Interior said that the meeting discussed ways to enhance and follow up on security cooperation between the two countries, discuss issues of common interest, and activate the memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of law enforcement and training that was recently signed in Istanbul, including the exchange of expertise, development of training programs, and raising the efficiency of security cadres.
The ministry added that the Turkish Deputy Minister of Interior expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Libyan Ministry of Interior, stressing his country's desire to develop the strategic partnership in the security field.
Karaloğlu arrived at the Ministry of Interior before the meeting; where he was received by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior after an official reception ceremony was held for him upon his arrival from Ankara at Mitiga Airport.
Last October, the Ministry of Interior signed three memoranda of understanding with the Turkish Ministry of Interior, including two MoUs with the Criminal Investigation Department signed in Tripoli on October 2 and 31, and the third signed by the Minister of Interior, Emad Al-Trabelsi, and the Turkish Minister of Interior in Istanbul on October 23.
The signing of the MoUs between the Libyan and Turkish Ministries of Interior comes within the framework of strengthening security relations between the two countries, and enhancing the exchange of expertise in the fields of security, combating crime, law enforcement, and training police cadres.
