The Minister-designate of Interior Affairs, Emad Al-Trabelsi, requested Italian support for the ministry's plan to fight illegal immigration, adding in a meeting with the Italian Ambassador, Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi, on Sunday in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Public Affairs, the Director of Relations and Cooperation Department, and representatives of the Minister's Office and the Office of Communication and International Cooperation.

The Interior Ministry said in a statement that the meeting saw discussions on joint interest topics, especially security and illegal immigration, in addition to their political, economic, social, health and security repercussions, and their connection to transnational organized crime as well as terrorism in both countries.

Al-Trabelsi referred to forming a committee from the relevant departments in the Ministry which prepared a plan to protect (border - desert - urban - sea) area, saying they can work together on it to have a positive impact on the ground.

He called on Italian companies to return to work inside Libya in light of the improvement in the security situation, and urged the Italian ambassador to facilitate granting visas to Libyan citizens, as well as to raise the efficiency and strengthen the capabilities of Libyan police cadres.

The Italian ambassador reaffirmed that the position of the Italian government is fully consistent with the Libyan position on many important issues, stressing the importance of further activating the communication between the two parties to work together for the benefit of both sides.
