The Man-Made River Authority announced, on Monday, that an electricity shortage had occurred in the well fields, causing a large number of wells in Al-Hasawna system to go out of service, and halting some of the main pumps.
Director General of Al-Hasawneh System of Al-Jafara Plain, Younis Al-Talisi, confirmed that the operational status was gradually restored after the shortage, adding that the operating teams are continuing to restart the wells.
Earlier, the authorities in Tripoli reported a partial exit of a number of wells from the Al-Hasawneh wells field on Sunday, followed by a power outage at the Tarhuna pumping station, indicating a lack of water supply to the city of Tripoli and an interruption of supply to the cities of the Nafusa Mountain.
However, the General Electricity Company (GECOL) denied the lack of power supply to the river wells, confirming that a malfunction had occurred in Washtata area in Tarhuna, which was maintained and recharged, refuting Man-Made River Authority’s report about the presence of a malfunction in power lines supplying Jabal Al-Hasawneh system.
“If there is a malfunction, it may be internal in the river system”. it added.
The GECOL stressed that electricity supplies to the capital and all cities, including water services, are running normally, calling on the public not to panic.
