The Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi and the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, discussed on Monday following up on efforts to activate the national referendum.
The two sides stressed, according to a statement issued by the government after the meeting, the importance of resorting to the opinion of the Libyan people as a basic step in achieving the political solutions necessary to reach elections.
The two sides hailed the positive impact of the corrective decisions taken earlier on the livelihood of the Libyan citizen, which contributed to improving living conditions and enhancing economic stability, stressing the need to move forward in this direction. They agreed to continue coordination and to take the necessary measures to remove obstacles that prevent maintaining stability in the country.
It is noteworthy that the last meeting between Menfi and Dbeibah was held during the crisis of the leadership of the Central Bank of Libya, as the two sides agreed on October 3 on the need to establish the necessary controls that contribute to controlling public spending and working to improve the conditions of citizens in all aspects of living.
Menfi previously issued a decision establishing the High Commission for Referendum and National Survey, and observers say that the purpose of establishing this commission may have been to hold a referendum on dissolving the House of Representatives and the High Council of State in the event of their continued failure to reach a political solution that leads to holding general elections.
