The Quartet Group for Libya, which includes the European Union, African Union, United Nations and Arab League, will meet on Monday in Cairo, Egypt, the Arab League announced.
Arab League’s spokesman, Mahmoud Afifi, told reporters that the meeting will take some steps to encourage Libyan parties to take up their responsibilities and push forward the political process, including supporting and monitoring possible upcoming Libyan elections, if Libya requested.
The Head of the UNSMIL, Ghassan Salame, will be present at the Quartet Meeting in Cairo along with officials from all other participating bodies, including the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini.
“This meeting will be part of the international community’s commitment to coordinate with Libya to support the political solutions to end the crisis so Libyans can focus on elections and constitution as per the Libyan Political Agreement signed in Skhirat Morocco.” Afifi added.
All issues in Libya and the developments of the UN-launched action plane by Salame will be on the table at the meeting in order to push for a solution and for holding a national conference to help achieve national reconciliation in Libya.
