LFF

The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) announced that the start date of the new season of the Libyan Premier League for 2024/2025 will be on October 2, with the participation of 36 teams.

This announcement came through a letter published by the Competitions Organizing Committee of the LFF addressed to the heads of the boards of directors of the Premier League clubs, at a time when the Board of Directors of the LFF issued Decision No. (57) of 2024, which canceled the mechanism of relegation and promotion to the Premier League and decided to promote the clubs that participated in the promotion competitions last season, numbering (14) to the Premier League, so that the total number of teams in the new season becomes (36 teams), with (18 teams) in each group.

The LFF justified its decision by relying on a technical report from the national team's coach Micho in which he recommended working to increase the number of matches played by local players during the season.

The decision was met with wide criticism from the sports community, as social media platforms were filled with criticism of this decision and considered it as another step backward by the LFF, while some of them considered it an electoral bribe by the Executive Office before the elections scheduled to be held during the coming period.

It is not yet clear how the league championship will be organized for the new season in light of this huge number of teams, but it is unlikely that the LFF will deviate from its previous method of the two-group system and then the title-winning stage.
