The newly-formed Libyan Advisory Committee, established by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), has wrapped up its inaugural two-day meeting in Tripoli. The committee agreed on operational mechanisms and plans to reconvene next week for further discussions.

In a statement released Monday, UNSMIL described the talks as “fruitful,” highlighting progress on setting the committee’s rules and procedures. The participants also engaged in preliminary discussions on key contentious issues related to the country’s electoral framework.

The mission confirmed that the committee’s recommendations will be presented to UNSMIL for consideration in subsequent phases of Libya’s political process. The aim is to support Libyan institutions and policymakers in steering the nation towards long-awaited national elections.
