An armed group shot and killed a lieutenant in Benghazi on Friday, local sources have reported.

Lieutenant Muhammad Tariq al-Maghribi was killed after unidentified armed men opened fire on him and his two companions on Venice Street.

The 25-year-old, well-known as "Hammadi al-Maghribi" was a resident of the Ardh Lamloum neighbourhood.

It may be worth noting that the Secretary-General of the Libyan Red Crescent Society, Marai Al-Darsi, recently stated that he was the target of an assassination attempt in Benghazi.

He said he was threatened with death by "Maher Al-Zawi", a member of Khalifa Haftar's Tariq bin Ziyad militia.
