The General Directorate for Criminal Investigation announced on Friday the arrest of a criminal gang in the Abdul Kafi neighbourhood of Sabha for kidnapping irregular migrants to demand ransom for their release.
A force from the Criminal Investigation Department conducted a security operation that resulted in the capture of the gang and the release of 79 migrants, including 14 women.
Investigations revealed that the gang lured African migrants in Sabha with promises of employment before detaining them and contacting their families to demand ransom.
