Dennis Francis, President of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, has affirmed the UN's commitment to supporting rescue missions in eastern Libya following the floods caused by Strom Daniel, which hit the area last Sunday.

The UN made his remarks during a phone call with Muhammed Menfi, Head of Libya's Presidential Council (PC), on Thursday.

Francis conveyed his condolences on behalf of the Secretary-General and members of the UNGA for the victims of Storm Daniel, according to the PC media office.

Menfi, for his part, praised the role of the United Nations and "its support during the ordeal of the storm." He also offered his apology for his inability to participate in the UNGA 78th session due to the exceptional circumstances the country is going through.
