Deputy Prime Minister/ Minister of Health Ramadan Abu Janah, has called on the Attorney General to open an investigation into the fuel explosion that killed several people in the southern region.

Seven people were killed when a fuel truck intended for the black market in the south region exploded in Bint Baya on Monday.

Minister Abu Janah demanded an immediate inquiry to assert who is hindering the government-supplied fuel to reach the licensed stations and how it ends up in the hands of illicit traders.

He underscored the need to put an end to such violations, which he said constitute a criminal offense under Libyan law.

Pressured by the lack of fuel and its spiraling prices, locals passing by descended on the overturned tanker to collect the spilled fuel before it burst into flames and engulfed those around it.

The local hospital in Bint Baya declared four dead, while two others died of their injuries while transforming them to Tripoli.
