The UN Envoy to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, has reaffirmed the mission's readiness to work with the Presidential Council (PC) and Libyan actors to improve the legal framework for the elections.

Bathily made his remarks during a meeting with the PC Head, Muhammed Menfi, at the latter's office on Sunday.

The UN official pledged to work towards bringing the parties closer to consensus on all tracks.

He briefed Menfi on the recent meetings he had with different Libyan parties, in which he discussed the outputs of the 6 + 6 Joint Committee.

A statement by the PC said that Bathily lauded the partnership of the mission with the PC, pointing to the importance of cooperation between all Libyan parties to develop consensual appliable laws that lead to free and transparent elections.

On his part, Menfi welcomed the UN mission's efforts and stressed "the need for the main parties to agree on a general, consensual, non-exclusionary framework that leads to an electoral process the Libyans had long aspired to, and end the transitional stages."

On Sunday, the head of the High Council of State (HCS), Khaled Al-Mishri, submitted to Bathily the final draft for the presidential and parliamentary voting laws resulting from the 6 + 6 Joint Committee meetings.

He said the laws agreed upon "are final, binding, and welcomed" by the HCS and the House of Representatives.
