The EU Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, has raised concerns over the impact of unilateral initiatives on the ongoing political process in Libya.
During a meeting on Tuesday with Mohammed Menfi, President of the Presidential Council (PC), Orlando stressed that such actions could undermine efforts toward a comprehensive and inclusive political solution.
The Libyan News Agency reported, citing Orlando, that he discussed the latest developments in the country with Menfi,” highlighting the importance of collaboration among all parties involved.
Orlando urged all stakeholders, including the PC, to cooperate closely with the United Nations to reduce tensions and reinvigorate the political process through dialogue, as he emphasized the need to preserve Libya’s stability and territorial integrity.
The ambassador also echoed the concerns of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), noting that unilateral actions risk deepening divisions within the country. Such actions, he warned, could jeopardize Libya’s standing in the global financial system, potentially leading to adverse consequences for its citizens.
In addition, he underscored the importance of transparency and accountability in managing Libya’s national resources, affirming the EU’s readiness to support a Libyan-led dialogue facilitated by the United Nations.
