The European Union Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) in Libya conducted a five-day training for 14 officers from the Libyan Customs Authority on practical risk assessment across the country's borders, as announced on their Facebook page on Sunday.
According to the European mission, the training focused on methodologies for accurate threat assessment, risk identification, and mitigation through appropriate targeting.
The training aims to enhance the proficiency of the Libyan Customs Authority in identifying security risks during border monitoring of trade and passenger flows.
EUBAM emphasized the importance of cooperation between border management agencies, prioritizing the fight against cross-border crime while respecting human rights.
The mission highlighted Libya's keenness to ensure the smooth flow of passengers and goods while maintaining appropriate levels of control to prevent illegal movements across borders in light of the continuous growth in traffic at its international borders.
EUBAM noted that the Libyan authorities could achieve the right balance by adopting a risk management approach to handling the flow of goods and travellers, thereby improving customs border control.
