The Minister of Local Government of the Government of National Unity, Badr al-Din al-Tumi, held talks in Berlin with the Minister of State at the German Federal Foreign Ministry, Katja Keuhl, on the  political developments in Libya, according to a statement published by the Ministry of Local Government's Facebook page.

The statement quoted the German state minister as expressing Germany's commitment to supporting the Berlin process and supporting efforts to stabilize Libya, noting her appreciation for the advanced level of cooperation between German institutions and the Ministry of Local Government, stressing German government's support for existing programs between the two countries.

For his part, the Minister of Local Government affirmed the commitment of the Government of National Unity to hold general elections in Libya on a consensual and fair constitutional basis.

Al-Tumi also reviewed the government's procedures and decisions to activate local administration and transfer powers to municipalities, activate local revenues, and allocate local development budgets by the government.

The meeting addressed the activation of the community participation programme, empowering women and their effective participation at all levels of local administration and at the national level by establishing a forum for female municipal council members, which includes all former and current female municipal council members through specialized technical committees.
