The Head of the Presidential Council, Chairman of the Arab Maghreb Union, Mohamed Menfi, received on Sunday at the Council’s headquarters in Tripoli the Secretary General of the Arab Maghreb Union, Tarek Ben Salem, and the meeting discussed "ways to activate the work of the Maghreb Union, and everything that would enhance joint Maghreb work in all fields and sectors, activate its apparatuses and institutions, and reactivate the sectorial ministerial committees and its institutions.
The meeting also discussed strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and cooperation that bind the member states and their peoples as well as adopting a common policy in various fields," according to a statement by Manfi's Media Office.
The last summit held at the level of leaders of the Maghreb countries was in 1994 in Tunisia, due to the obstacles that the Arab Maghreb Union faced since its establishment in activating its structures and achieving Maghreb unity.
It is noteworthy that the Arab Maghreb Union is a regional organization that was founded in 1989 in the city of Marrakesh in Morocco, and it consists of five countries located in the western part of the Arab world: Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, and Mauritania.
