The National Elections Commission (HNEC) has announced the start of the voter registration phase for the second group of municipal elections scheduled from February 22 to March 14.
HNEC explained at a press conference announcing start of the elections, that the total number of candidates in the second phase is 4961, including 1214 individuals and 339 lists in 62 municipalities.
The commission indicated that the candidacy will be conducted using the individual system in 4 municipalities, while the competition will be conducted using the list and individual systems in 58 municipalities.
HNEC pointed out that the municipalities targeted in the second phase are 13 in the east, 9 in the south and 40 in the west, saying that the total number of polling stations where the voting process will take place is 1131 polling stations.
The commission also explained that the local election observers are 88 organizations, 1285 local observers, 94 media professionals and 4929 agents of the candidates.
HNEC said that the headquarters of the committees accepting registration applications in person are 141 headquarters, adding that the time period related to distributing the voter card is 21 days, that can be renewed for a week.
