The Fuel and Gas Crisis Committee at Brega Oil Marketing Company said that it had managed to track more than 200 fuel smuggling dens in the western region, especially in the cities of Zuwara, Abu Kammash and Zolten.

A source from the committee said that it had coordinated with the Air Force in the western region to locate these smuggling sites in order to target them.

The source added that a large operation is to be launched soon to storm these dens and go after the smuggling gangs, in addition to 105 filling stations that have been closed in the western region on accusations of being involved in smuggling operations.

The source further confirmed that a number of managers of fuel distribution companies have been called by the Attorney General to interrogate them about accusations of collaborating with gangs to smuggle fuel, costing the Libyan state a loss of about 750 million dollars annually.
