Libya headed the fourth session of the Conference on Establishing a Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Weapons of Mass Destruction in the Middle East.

The conference kicked off in New York in the presence of the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Ambassador Denis Francis, and the Under-Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs, Izumi Nakamitsu.

The opening day included general discussions between member states, observer states, and representatives of relevant specialized organizations.

In his speech before the conference, Libya’s representative to the United Nations, Taher Al-Sunni, highlighted the extent of violations committed by the Israeli occupation forces in Palestine.
